Gomez @ Corner Hotel, Melbourne (Sun 21 Oct 2012)
This was my third, and favourite Gomez show. In an interesting move, you could vote via the bands website on what songs you wanted to hear at your nominated show. A lot of what I voted for made it in- stoked.
I’ve been getting over a rather nasty flu over the last few weeks, so wasn’t feeling the best. I’d wanted to see Eagle & The Worm, but as it transpired, it wasn’t to be. I left with plenty of time, but as any Melbournite knows, Punt Rd lives up to it’s rhymical namesake, no matter what the time nor day.
By the time I’d arrived, all the street parking had gone, and so it was to the pay carpark for me. Alas, I had no change so had to park, run to the venue to change some money and run back to the car before the parking police found me, and then back to the venue again. So, in actual fact, I could have seen a fair bit of Eagle & The Worm, but figured I’d prefer to avoid a $98 parking fine, so they were missed.
Gomez were brilliant tonight- best I’ve seen. It was like a private party and the band were playing all our faves. They looked like they were having a ball, and the audience did too. I went to this show with A-Jo, who’s my wife’s bestie, as well as one of her mates, Philippa.
The set was a great mix comprising songs off pretty much every Gomez album. They’re an extremely prolific band with seven albums to date, so I didn’t know every song that was played, but did know most.
Gomez are a great band live- and I highly recommend seeing them if you haven’t already.
