Dylan Moran @ State Theatre, Melbourne (Sun 2 Aug 2015)

I’ve seen Dylan Moran a bunch of times, and this was by far the funniest of them all.

As I’ve said before about comedy shows, it’s impossible to write anything meaningful in a ‘review’. This show resonated with me, as well as my date for the evening, Samantha. It was all about being old, feeling irrelevant among the young, and quitting smoking.

One of the things I love about a Dylan Moran show is that he’s always highly relevant and topical. This show was littered with references to Bronwyn Bishop and the current entitlements scandal, as well as Tony Abbott and his performance (or lack thereof) as PM. One feels like an important guest when the showman of the night bothers to find out what’s going on in your country at the time. I’ve seen plenty of comedy shows which are the same regurgitated gig from night to night, regardless of location.

There aren’t many comedians who I try and see every time they tour, but Dylan Moran is one, and definitely continues to be after this show.
