Gotye @ The Forum, Melbourne (Fri 30 Sep 2011)
Tonight was our first time to The Forum. Fabulous venue and actually reminded me a lot of the Filmore in San Francisco. The bathrooms are bigger than my house. Impressive. Looking forward to the next couple of shows I’m seeing there soon: Mono next week and Explosions In The Sky in December.
The show was great, and although Gotye complained of being quite sick, and being worried he was going to lose his voice- it sounded pretty much perfect to me. Unlike his set as Splendour In The Grass in July, most of tonights show was made up of material from Making Mirrors, the latest album. Only 2 tracks from Like Drawing Blood were in the set: Hearts A Mess and the encore of Learnalilgivinanlovin. The band were sensational, with a full horn section (sax, trombone & trumpet), as well as samples, percussion, guitar, bass and drums. Gotye of course played a bit of percussion, but a lot less than other shows.
The setlist (again, courtesy of setlist.fm) was:
Eyes Wide Open (from Making Mirrors)
State Of The Art (from Making Mirrors)
Easy Way Out (from Making Mirrors)
I Feel Better (from Making Mirrors)
Save Me (from Making Mirrors)
Don’t Worry, We’ll Be Watching You (from Making Mirrors)
Somebody That I Used To Know (from Making Mirrors)
Hearts A Mess
Bronte (from Making Mirrors)
